Regular Maintenance
All our Jeanneau 42DS regular maintenance tasks are listed in this Excel spreadsheet. It shows when tasks were carried out and has some additional notes.
Annual lay-up
Engine
Change oil and replace filter before winterising engine
Flush raw water system with fresh water (Run engine for 40 mins.)
Flush raw water cooling system with 25% anti-freeze, finishing with 1 litre 100% anti-freeze
Drain raw water cooling system
Remove raw water impeller (pump rotates clockwise) DIY Extractor tool details
Remove fan belt
Check oil level
Check coolant level
Change oil & renew oil filter
Check & clean strainer
Spray heat exchanger element core with WD40
Drain water trap
Spray engine with WD40
Clean anti-syphon valve
Remove exhaust water injection elbow for cleaning
General
Wash and apply non hardening polish to hull/topsides and leave to dry
Wash teak decks and cockpit
Apply biocide to teak decking
Drain water tanks, rinse last 10 litres with dilute vinegar
Drain hot and cold tanks using all taps & showers (including stern shower)
Clean cold water filter
Open water tank hatches and sponge dry
Flush both heads through with fresh water followed by washing up liquid and then drain
Pump antifreeze through both shower drains
Withdraw log and put in blanking plug
Rinse anchor & chain
Clean anchor chain locker
Remove all running rigging and run messengers
Grease headsail furling upper bearing
Clean & condition all interior cushions
Fit winter curtains
Remove, clean and store sprayhood and cockpit cover
Remove wind generator and store
Regular winter checks (every 3 weeks)
Charge batteries
Check dehumidifiers
Examine all internal woodwork for posible leaks
Close/Open all seacocks
Spray engine with rust inhibitor
Pre-launch
Engine
Replace impeller
Replace alternator belt
Check oil level
Check coolant level
Renew fuel filter
Drain water from fuel separator
Check hose clamps
Check cable straps
Check mounts
Check cutless bearing
Grease Volvo shaft seal (Burp seal after launching)
Check exhaust elbow
Drain fuel in-line water trap
Replace fuel filter
Re-fit water pump impellor
Rigging
Inspect all standing rigging & deck fittings for wear
Re-tune Standing rigging
Secure turnbuckles & clevis pins with cotter pins & protect with tape
Inspect & lubricate sheaves if necessary
Clean & lubricate winches
Cleaning
Remove winter wax
Clean hull and apply hard polish
Wash teak decks and cockpit
Clean interior (bilges, lockers etc.)
Clean windows
Vacuum interior
Fill & flush water tank
Clean cold water filter
Vacuum & re-fit cushions
Re-fit curtains
Wash and clean all internal surfaces
General
Inspect and lubricate all steering wire and sheaves
Check/adjust steering cable tension
Check battery electrolyte level
Antifoul hull
Inspect for leaks
Fill water tanks and flush system with fresh water
Check holt & cold water system for leaks
Refit log and antifoul lightly
Burnish propeller
Replace propeller anode
Replace shaft anode
Inspect prop shaft and nut
Refit running rigging, halyards etc.
